The Sixers appear to be angling toward creating cap space as possible in 2013, when the free agent class is much better than this year’s group.
With the Sixers still needing a power forward to replace Elton Brand, who leaves town with his $18.2 million salary via the amnesty clause, there was plenty of speculation that the Sixers would look to trade one of their wing players (Iguodala?) for one. But team president Rod Thorn said Tuesday night that it's "probably not" likely that the Sixers will trade for a power forward. Thorn also denied a rumor that the Sixers planned to sign free agent power forward Carl Landry to a one-year deal. J.J. Hickson is on the relatively unimpressive list of free agent power forwards. The Spurs’ DeJuan Blair could be available in a trade and has a relatively low salary ($1.05 million).
