Rondo Breaks A Bob Cousy Assist Record

I gotta say, even as a big Rondo apologist, this really impresses me. Any time you can put Rajon Rondo in the same sentence as Bob Cousy, that's a good day for Rajon. When he's breaking assist records from the godfather of dimes, that's something special.

Rondo dished out a total of 219 assists in the month of March, shattering Bob Cousy's 56-year-old record after recording 210 assists in January 1956, according to ESPN Stats and Info. Rondo certainly benefited from having 17 games during the month in this condensed season, but he still averaged 12.9 assists per game for the month. Only twice during March did Rondo fail to reach double digits in assists (8 over 26 minutes in a lopsided loss to Philadelphia on March 7 and 5 over 26 minutes in a win over Portland).
Well done Rajon. Keep it up.

Quelle évolution pour les seeds de la conférence EAST !
Boston (qui bénéficie pour le moment du bien utile seed#4) est désormais à 2,5 GB de Orlando (3), a rattrapé Atlanta (6) et est juste à 1 GB de Indiana (5).
Philly (7) a gagné un match crucial hier soir en déjouant les Hawks.
Les Knicks (8) (malgré tous leurs malheurs au niveau du roster) tiennent désormais Milwaukee à bonne distance.
On va avoir droit à une fin de saison disputée entre la 8ème et la 3ème place ! |

Ok parce que je me souviens pas qu'avec Dice on ait enterré KG en début de saison, au contraire, on tient vraiment depuis le début grâce aux perfs du Big Ticket
Par contre ouais t'as du me voir déprimer avec Pierce et Allen à un moment ou un autre
Mais pour en revenir à KG, c'est évident qu'on imaginait pas qu'il allait gagner en puissance. Alors en plus gagner en puissance en faisant du vintage KG, sûr que ça laisse baba. Et ça fait plaisir, yes |

En fait, en tout début de saison, Rivers a décidé en accord avec KG de contenir son temps de jeu à maximum 5 minutes d'affilée sur le parquet. Ils s'y sont tenus et KG s'est non seulement adapté à ce nouveau timing, mais également à un rôle de pivot en cours de saison. C'est à dire que non seulement il joue à son rendement optimal, mais en ayant deux grosses contraintes à gérer pour lui (et on sait que KG a en horreur le poste 5 ^^ même si tout le monde sait qu'il y est très bon). Une grosse leçon pour tous les jeunes PF de la ligue. |

On oublie pas qu'en début de saison on pensait très sincèrement qu'il allait dégringoler statistiquement et au niveau de son impact.

L'impact de KG en ce moment, c'est quand même un ton au dessus de ce qu'on a pu voir de sa part depuis pas mal de temps a Boston. Depuis qu'il s'est éloigné des terrains pour raisons persos, il y a quelques temps, il est juste injouable.
Il shoote avec une régularité de fou a quasiment 6 m, il a une activité au rebond tout a fait honorable et en défense c'est un tueur.
3 gros morceaux arrivent cette semaine (Bosh, Duncan, Noah) il va devoir être encore une fois au top. |

Tu connais mon point de vue, depuis sa 4ème saison KG est constamment dans les 5 meilleurs défenseurs de la ligue et en terme d'impact il n'est pas loin d'être le meilleur depuis sa venue à Boston.
Pas étonnant vu sa morphologie, sa mobilité et son sens de l'anticipation.
Hier ca a été une leçon, Love surfait quand même sur 4 matchs à 51-14,30-21, 28-11, 40-19....
C'est ce que je disais avant hier je crois, Garnett sera toujours meilleur que Love tant que ce dernier ne sera pas plus complet. Mais je me garderai bien de tout pronostique avec Love! |

Garnett DOMINATED Love and Big Al more than you realize...

A few years ago I watched a Celtics Mavs game where Kevin Garnett just murdered Dirk Nowitzki. I mean no-regard-for-human-life destroyed him. But when the game was over, Dirk somehow had 18 points. Sure enough, when I watched Sportscenter that night, they gave KG credit for a good game but said that Dirk was right there with him in scoring even on an off night. And it bugged me, because I'd watched the game and KNEW that KG had dominated the match-up. It bugged me enough that I looked at the play-by-play, and what do you know, Garnett DID destroy him when they were on the court together (23 points on 11/17 FG for KG to 6 points on 2/9 FG for Dirk in 24 minutes), but when KG was on the bench Dirk had gone nuts on the back-ups to the tune of 12 points in 13 minutes.
After that, every so often, I'll check out the play-by-play to see how opponents are REALLY doing against KG. You may or may not remember that during the 2010 playoffs I posted about Garnett's Shutouts, how when he was on the court he was dominating his match-ups.
Well, after tonight's game against the Timberwolves when I once again witnessed Garnett demolish an opponent (Kevin Love) only to see all of the highlight reels pointing out Love ending up with 22 and 11, I decided to take another glance at the play-by-play to see how the game really went. And since this game came right on the heels of KG seemingly beating up on Al Jefferson, I decided to check out that one as well. The results? You can probably guess by now...
KG and Big Al were on-court together for 21 minutes and 54 seconds:
Jefferson: 8 points, 3/9 FG (40.5% TS%), 6 reb, -9
Garnett: 16 points, 7/11 FG (67.3% TS), 7 reb, +9
KG and Love were on-court together for 26 minutes and 33 seconds:
Love 8 points, 2/9 FG (38.8% TS), 8 reb, -11
Garnett: 18 points, 9/15 FG (60% TS), 9 reb, +11
Once again, Big Al and K-Love found ways to get their numbers when Garnett went to the bench and make it seem like they were somewhat respectable with double-doubles. That may fool the hosts on Sportscenter, but don't let it fool you. Garnett UNLOADED on his two younger counterparts in the last two games...and don't let anyone tell you different.
*(I did these numbers by hand from the play-by-play, so it's not official. I certainly welcome anyone going back and double-checking my work.)

MINNEAPOLIS — There is still no word on when Mickael Pietrus will be able to take the tests that will determine when he can resume playing, but Doc Rivers doesn’t hold out much hope he’ll be on the court before the playoffs.
“I can’t imagine it being any sooner,” the Celtics [team stats] coach said before last night’s 100-79 win against Minnesota. “When I talked to him two days ago, he was talking about next week. But he has a concussion. That’s the way I looked at the conversation. But I don’t know. He may be right, but I doubt that. I would think with the severity of that injury, we would be very happy if he could return by the playoffs.”
As for an update, Rivers said, “He texted me today, so at least he can do that. I know that sounds crazy, but after a concussion, he couldn’t have done that four days ago, so that’s progress.” |

Celtics guard Ray Allen will miss his fifth straight game with a lingering right ankle soreness, according to the team.
For the second straight game, Allen went through the morning shootaround, but didn't feel good enough to participate in game action. The mere fact that Allen traveled on the trip to Minnesota -- a one-game road trip for Boston -- is an indication the team felt strongly he might play. But the wait continues.
Rivers said earlier this week that Allen underwent an MRI last Saturday and that it was negative. The five consecutive games are the most Allen has missed in a Boston uniform and he's battled ankle woes in the past. Austin Rivers would play for Celtics

Austin Rivers, the son of Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers who declared for the NBA draft this week after finishing his freshman season at Duke, says he'd love to play for Boston.
"If that was to happen, I would love to," Rivers said Friday morning on WEEI's "Dennis & Callahan." "I would love to play for any organization in the NBA. That's my dream. It would be great. It would be different. It would be an interesting aspect just to play for my dad."
Rivers, 19, said he never has been coached by his father at any level, and that if he were to be drafted by the Celtics, he'd want to be treated like any other player.
"If I'm messing up, I want him to be hard on me. If I'm doing good, I want him to pat me on the back. That's the way he coaches," Rivers said during the radio interview. "However he coaches (Rajon) Rondo or Kevin Garnett or Avery Bradley or any other player on that team, I want him to coach me. I don't want anything handed to me. I never have my whole life. I would have to mature and accept that responsibility. That's one of the things you look forward to when you decide to go pro."
Rivers, who averaged 15.4 points per game in his one season for Duke and was the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year, is expected to be a first-round pick. The Blue Devils lost to Lehigh in their opening game of the NCAA tournament.
Rivers said he hopes to eventually finish his degree at Duke by taking summer classes.
Doc Rivers said Wednesday that he is OK with his son's decision to go pro. He said that Austin was recruited as a "one-and-done" player by Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski.
Rivers said he won't pressure general manager Danny Ainge to draft his son, and said he recognized that the Celtics have to do what's best for the team. |
