The Bulls Show Respect To Their Elders by Jeff Clark on Feb 11, 2012 9:12 PM EST
I'll take the guy with the limp, you guys watch out for the cross eyed guy - you never know where he'll pass it.
So, who's next on the schedule? Hmmm, the Bulls. Oh great, just what we need.A team that is just as dominant on defense as we are, except they are younger and more athletic and have the reigning MVP to boot.
Bulls ready for another Celtic showdown - Chicago Bulls Blog - ESPN Chicago
"When I was in college, we used to play pick up games in a little league," Korver said Friday night. "And there was always like the old-guy team. They weren't really that athletic or anything, but they killed everybody because they played so smart and they backdoor cut and they set screens and they knocked down shots. The Celtics are like them, but good players. It's a compliment. They play really good team basketball. So it's going to be a challenge."
Well that's nice. I'm sure that the Celtics are going to be flattered by being compared to those old guys that show up at the court in sweatpants, elbow pads, and smelling of Icy Hot.
In truth, he was trying to be complimentary and went on to praise them. If anything, it is an apt analogy. I used to hate playing against those guys. Shoot, I'm well on my way to becoming one of those guys.
No Excuses, No Finger Pointing, Team Has Meeting by Jeff Clark on Feb 11, 2012 3:03 PM EST
As a fan, I can rationalize the loss last night. Even in the third quarter of the Lakers game where the starters played heavy minutes you could tell that might come back to bite them. As soon as I saw the Raptors game on the schedule for the next day after the overtime I mentally chalked it up as a loss and hoped to be proven wrong. That doesn't make the loss any easier to take, just not surprising.
But that's me the fan. What about the players? Are they thinking of it that way? If they are, Doc isn't happy about it and wants to send that message to everyone.
Celtics on the low end - The Boston Globe
When asked if the overtime loss Thursday should be considered a factor in last night’s effort, Rivers said, "If you’re mentally weak. If they want to use the overtime [Thursday], then we are not mentally tough enough to be a winner. If you’re tough, you come in and grind this one out and win it, too. If you’re not, you use [Thursday] as an excuse." The Celtics met after the game and one player said it was not a "finger-pointing’’ session but more of a way to hash out some issues and prevent a backslide.
Good. I'm glad they all had a heart to heart. There's some real leaders in that clubhouse and the smart players will listen to them. Nobody wants to let the team down but there's always that temptation to let excuses deter you from doing what you know you should do. Nobody said this season was going to be easy. Nobody said winning happens just because you have a better roster. You have to put aside the excuses and do your job.
Rondo Slumping by Jeff Clark on Feb 11, 2012 9:01 AM EST
Even if he doesn't want to label it a slump, that's what it is.
Rajon Rondo needs to recover - BostonHerald.com
"To his credit, at halftime he said, ‘Man, I’m playing like crap.’ And I said, ‘That’s fine, but keep playing,’ " Rivers said. "Even if you don’t play well, it can’t affect your energy and your effort, because everyone is always watching on your team." The problem is Rondo only got marginally better. He wasn’t particularly effective during the Celtics’ Thursday night loss to the Lakers, either, though he didn’t want to entertain a suggestion that he’s in the midst of a slump. "That’s you guys’ opinions," he said. "In my mind it is what it is. I just didn’t play well. I think I’m physically all right. I wouldn’t be playing if I wasn’t. The wrist is fine. I’ve started to play a lot of minutes but regardless."
A lot of folks are quick to toss Rondo under the bus and/or offer him up in trade. I still see a guy that will figure things out and get back to being dominant again. I'll write more on this later, but Rondo has always been an enigma, perhaps even to himself. He'll get things going again.
